A new Disney Channel Original Movie, Den Brother, will premiere tonight, August 13, at (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The movie follows 16-year-old hockey star Alex Pearson (Hutch Dano), who gets suspended from his team after showboating during a game. As part of his punishment, Alex's dad makes him babysit his little sister, Emily (G. Hannelius), and he reluctantly ends up becoming the Bumble Bee Troop leader for her troop. Before long, Alex figures out how to turn all this to his advantage, but his self-centered antics bring unfortunate consequences.
This movie reminds me of a tween version of The Tooth Fairy, in which Dwayne Johnson plays an arrogant hockey player who also has to learn a lesson in love. Although not as funny as The Tooth Fairy, Den Brother does follow the Disney Channel movie success formula -- cute lead star + positive lesson learned + a touch of romance -- so it should be a hit with kids. The movie will also get kids even more excited about next month's Disney Channel movie (which will be an even bigger hit): Camp Rock 2.
