New Christmas Movies

New Christmas Movies Thursday November 11, 2010

Several new Christmas DVDs and Blu-rays are out this year, many of them titles for preschoolers, and some new editions of old classics. The most notable new title is Disney's A Christmas Carol, which was released in theaters last Christmas. Practically a one man performance capture show starring Jim Carrey, or at least his likeness and voice, in various roles, the movie has it's funny moments. But, there are also some very frightening moments that could be terrifying to children under about age 8, and maybe to some older ones depending on their personalities.

In theaters, the movie was somewhat of a thrill ride, with the numerous ghostly jump scenes, Jim Carrey flying, running and sliding all over town, and the heavy 3D effects. The movie seems a bit more like just a movie at home, but still has some unique points. Then again, I am a sucker for the classic tale, and I almost always love new renditions of A Christmas Carol.

Whether or not Disney's version of the Dickens' classic is a winner in your house, there are a few other new Christmas DVDs to choose from, and classics like Irving Berlin's White Christmas are available in new editions and/or on Blu-ray for the first time.
