This is the time of year that we get a lot of big releases on DVD and Blu-ray, and today some great titles for kids (or for the kid in you) hit store shelves. We already went over Toy Story 3 yesterday, but in case you missed it, that's available today in stores. Another great family title: The Sound of Music on Blu-ray. This timeless musical is also available today in a collector's edition that would make an absolutely amazing gift for a Sound of Music fan. We downloaded the songs from the musical a while back when our daughter started getting into musicals, and The Sound of Music on Blu-ray is on our list of stocking stuffers for her. Another title that is sure to bring back a lot of memories is The Goonies. That's right, the epic kids' adventure film from the '80s is now available on Blu-ray, and in a 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition that is packed with special features and souvenir items. Now, before you get to excited, run out and buy this, and pop it in the player for family movie night, remember to preview this first if you have young children or you are concerned about film content. I remember watching this as a kid, but times have changed, and it is funny how you just forget about all the offensive content in those beloved films of yesteryear. While I am quite sure that I saw this movie at my daughter's age (now I'm going to use the proverbial, "And I turned out okay..."), I am going to wait a while before I let the kids watch this one.
