As strep throat runs rampant through our house, and the houses of many neighbors and friends, I have been throwing on a couple of our old movie favorites for sick days. While my girls love to forget about their ills by watching fun fantasies like Tinker Bell and Princess movies, I have a few sneaky titles I like to put on when I know what they really need is to take a nap. What DVDs make my kids zonk out the fastest?: Mary Poppins and Fantasia.
Just to be clear, I'm not advocating putting your children to sleep with the TV -- except when they're sick and were up most of the night but can't get comfy enough to lay down and nap for a while. The long, drawn out story of Mary Poppins just does my oldest in, and Fantasia is a full on lullaby with lovely images that trick them into thinking they are just watching TV until...zzzzzz.
As long as it's only every once in a while, there are some perks to having your kids be a little under the weather: spending extra quality time taking extra special care of them; lots of reading and other cuddly, quiet activities; and occasionally, the 2-3 hour nap.
