Yesterday, we talked about two upcoming big screen documentaries, but there is another one opening April 8th-- only in IMAX theaters. Audiences can leap with the orangutans of Borneo and roam with elephants in Kenya in Warner Bros. Pictures' Born to be Wild 3D. This film documents orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them.
How will a nature documentary look in 3D? Based on what we saw in Under the Sea 3D (also a Warner Bros. IMAX film), I have high hopes. Under the Sea was fun to watch, and the 3D didn't look too hokey or unnatural. Watching a 3D movie may be the closest some of us get to a real rainforest, or to the rugged Kenyan savannah, so let's hope it looks great!
As with Under the Sea 3D, the Born to be Free 3D website offers some really fabulous educational resources. Parents, educators or homeschoolers will love the colorful educator's guide that helps kids learn more about the animals and their habitats. Once you get to the website, just choose to "Swing with the Orangutans" or "Roam with the Elephants," and then click on the link that says, "education."
I love, love, love these educator's guides. My kids are still at an age where they think educational things like this are actually fun, and I hope it stays that way for a while. Now all I have to do is figure out how to coordinate the African Cats guide and the Born to be Wild guide so that we get them both done in time for the April releases.
