Since all this talk about Elton John and animated movies has been going on lately, I realized that we haven't watched The Lion King in so long, that my youngest daughter has never even heard of it. The movie is a fabulous love story for kids, so we are going to make that our family v-day flick.
Another plus to this film? My daughter has been learning all about landforms in school, and even though The Lion King is a cartoon, there are several interesting landforms and habitats to point out and discuss. Another interesting thought, is how landforms and habitats are important parts of both the animating and the telling of the story. Hmm... maybe I'll even have her write her own story set in a specific habitat. This will all dovetail so nicely with the upcoming educational fun we will be having with African Cats. Although that movie doesn't come out until April, the website offers plenty of material to keep kids busy from now until then.
Now before you go thinking that I'm one of those annoying moms who has to make everything educational, well okay, I kind of am. But, in my defense, my kids are all young enough that they still love stuff like this. When they start rolling their eyes at me for suggesting such activities, I'll probably change my approach.
