Which came first -- the owl movie or the owl trendiness? Saturday December 18, 2010

This year, we had the release of the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole corresponding with a huge surge in popularity for our feathered friends. Owls are everywhere this year, even in the Target bedding section. Did owls soar to their current trendy status on the wings of this movie? The owl trend began before the movie came out, but it had already been advertised. Still, the movie wasn't as well known or as huge as other movies have been, so it seems a stretch to think that the movie was the sole reason for our sudden love of owls. Maybe Harry Potter had something to do with it as well, or more to do with it? Coincidence?

Either way, the movie is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. While I have to be honest and admit that I was slightly disappointed with the movie as far as content, I want to own it anyway. For one thing, it's got all those cute owls! The movie really is beautiful, it's just that it didn't do the story from the books justice. We read the books as a family in anticipation of the movie, though, and we all want to see the movie again, and I'm always a sucker for movies based on great books.
