During the school year, we rarely watch TV in the evenings. We don't have a lot of time between school getting out and bedtime to begin with, and our kids don't watch any prime time shows. In the summer, though, we have two favorites that the whole family enjoys together: HGTV's Design Star and The Next Food Network Star. Even though our kids are still pretty little, our 7 and 5 year olds love these shows! I will admit, there have been a couple of times when the drama on Design Star has been a little over the top, and I wasn't sure I wanted the kids seeing it, but for the most part, the shows are good clean fun. They portray real people going after their dreams and making the most of their talents. I love how the kids get so attached to certain contestants and really root for them, and they also get inspired to try their little hands at designing things or cooking things. Both of these shows premiere soon, and we can't wait!
